The Texas Rangers were impressed with how Kumar Rocker, their 2022 first-round pick, pitched Thursday and hoped to see the same from the two-time Cy Young-winning Jacob deGrom. Rocker had Mariners hitters mystified by his slider over four innings, striking out seven. DeGrom’s slider is even better, though it might not be in his first outing since April 28, 2023. The Rangers staged an impressive comeback to win the game. There was also breaking news Thursday with Corey Seager needing surgery for a sports hernia, and the Rangers extended the contract of Chris Young.
