Opening Day is always under a magnifying glass, so the Texas Rangers’ 5-2 loss in the ninth inning Thursday at Globe Life Field seems a lot worse than it really was. Oh, it wasn’t great as reliever Luke Jackson surrendered a three-run homer to Red Sox right fielder Wilyer Abreu to snap a 2-2 tie. Nathan Eovaldi started for the Rangers and pitched well over six innings, and newcomers Kevin Pillar and Kyle Higashioka did well at the plate. It wasn’t enough. However, it’s not time to panic after the first game of a 162-game season.
