The Texas Rangers didn’t play terribly over the weekend against the Philadelphia Phillies but failed to win any of the three games. The Philies completed the sweep Sunday behind more quality pitching that shut down the Rangers’ offense for a third straight game. Zack Wheeler was the winning pitcher, overcoming a two-run first-inning homer by Joc Pederson. The Phillies mustered three runs against Patrick Corbin, who lasted only 4 1/3 innings but did well enough to keep the Rangers in the game. Next up for the Rangers is a rematch of the 2023 World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and it’s now a must-win series. Nathan Eovaldi will start the opener, and Merrill Kelly will pitch the finale against the team that traded him only two weeks ago.
