Four times on Sunday the Texas Rangers opened innings by getting the first two batters at first and second. Only once did they take advantage. Too many times Jack Leiter had hitters right where he wanted them, only to see them extend at-bats and, in a few cases, wiggle off the hook. Those missed opportunities doomed the Rangers in an 8-3 loss that prevented a three-game sweep of the Pirates. Corey Seager was in the middle of the misses as his slump was extended, but he had a decent series at PNC Park. The Rangers’ pitching for the upcoming series at Baltimore is in the air. Patrick Corbin will start the opener, but the Tuesday and Wednesday starters haven’t been announced.
