At 81-81, the Texas Rangers weren’t a bad team in 2025, but they failed to meet their goals. Their new manager, Skip Schumaker, will be charged with making sure the goals are met in 2026. He will try to assemble a coaching staff and try to get to know his players as soon as possible so that the transition to him from Bruce Bochy is as smooth as possible. Retaining part of the coaching staff, particularly pitching coach Mike Maddux, will help. The front office will have to give him a roster that works better than the 2025 version, especially offensively. It’ll be interesting to learn what Schumaker believes makes for a good offense. Judging by his career numbers and who he learned from as a player, Hall of Fame manager Tony LaRussa, Schumaker likely believes in doing whatever the games asks a hitter to do.
