Of all the Texas Rangers players from 2016 to 2018, right-hander Tony Barnette might not be the first name fans would think of when told a player from those teams has a biography out. But Barnette does. He joined the show to discuss A Baseball Gaijin: Chasing a Dream to Japan and Back by Aaron Fischman, and the book chronicles Barnette’s career from his college days to becoming a star for the Yakult Swallows in Japan to finally making his MLB debut for the Rangers at age 32. The book dives into Barnette’s adjustment to life in Japan and how he overcame obstacles during his career to become a big-league player. There was some Rangers talk to start the show. The offense, including Marcus Semien, showed some life over the weekend before a nine-game road trip that begins Tuesday.
