On a night the Dallas Mavericks honored their first president and general manager, Norm Sonju, they were overpowered by a pack of Wolves.

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Julius Randle scored 31 points to lead Minnesota past Dallas 118-105 on Wednesday night.

The game marked Dallas’ first action since its flight to Milwaukee was canceled, forcing the postponement of a matchup against the Bucks. The Mavericks were not cleared to fly after inclement weather swept through North Texas.

Entering the night, Dallas had gone 6-4 over its previous 10 games. But without a bevy of key players — including Cooper Flagg, Klay Thompson and Anthony Davis — the Mavericks struggled to generate consistent offense. They shot 38-of-84 (45.2%) from the field and made three 3-pointers.

Brandon Williams (17 points), P.J. Washington (21 points) and Naji Marshall (18 points) led Dallas in scoring. Marshall, who has taken on a point-forward role, also finished with six rebounds and one assist. He attempted to use his physicality to get downhill but had difficulty finishing against Randle, who is listed at 6-foot-9, 250 pounds.

Dallas held Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards to eight points in the first half, but he scored 12 in the second to finish with 20. Entering the game, Minnesota ranked 10th in offensive rating, sixth in defensive rating, eighth in net rating and fourth in 3-point percentage.

Mavericks wing Caleb Martin had 17 points and two blocks on Saturday. He followed that performance with four points, eight rebounds and a team-high five assists.

The Mavericks will host the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday in the second game of a back-to-back before traveling to Houston to face the Rockets on Saturday.
